Cultures is behaviors. Understanding and designing the required behaviors in an organization demonstrates what you value in people. Businesses are created by people and thus it is important to know what drives each team member, and what are his/her motives.
The cultural alignment needs to be supported by strong communication through-out the organization to customers and suppliers to make it transparent why, how and what is expected of each stakeholder. This in-turn shapes the culture of the joint organization going forward.
